Artist biography

Robert Hamilton was headlined “A Major Talent” by Chicago Daily News/New York Times critic Donal Henahan following his debut with the Chicago Symphony.  Chief NY Times critic Harold C. Schonberg later wrote: “All of Hamilton’s playing has color and sensitivity.  He is a fine artist.”  Winner of five international competitions, three Rockefeller grants and six grants from the US Department of State, Hamilton has presented acclaimed performances in major concert halls across four continents.  In 2020 the Chinese publication Classics Overseas put one of his CDs on its list of 10 “must haves”, calling it “unquestionably the equal of any ‘historically best’ interpretations”.  Included in the book Most Wanted Piano Teachers in the USA, Professor Hamilton has successfully passed his ideas to scores of students who themselves are enjoying distinguished careers. He serves on the faculties of Arizona State University and PianoSummer in New York, and was Artistic Director of the London Piano Festival during the 1990s.
