Reflections on Summer Festival 2022

Congratulations on a beautiful week, your labor of love, performances, and vast improvements! Thank you for such enthusiastic participation in our 6th Summer Festival.

Last year’s Festival was quite special for many reasons, not only because we were revitalized after a 3-year hiatus, but because of the amazing atmosphere and positivity you all contributed to the learning environment. The camaraderie, support of each other, performances, brain power, and excitement to share your gifts was refreshing and went unhindered. The master teachers were impressed with the level and expressed their joy in teaching all groups, as each young artist had something wonderful to offer. Thank you, parents and teachers for your encouragement, support, nurture, and for bringing them to API. If you volunteered for us, we are incredibly grateful.

Now that you have experienced API, whether for the first time or once again, we would love to hear from you. Please keep in touch with some fun news:

Testimonials: We’d love to hear about your personal experience at API, a message about this worthwhile experience to inspire other fellow young artists, parents, and teachers. Why did you come to API? Why is it valuable? What did you learn from the experience? Why is it important for teachers?

Alumni news: Tell us your accomplishments and where you are, now! Below, we will post some current news of fellow 2022 Festival students, which we hope to keep adding to in the years ahead.

Suggestions: We would appreciate any suggestions from you on how API can improve the next Summer Festival. We can always improve anything we do and make it a habit (per Aristotle on your API T-shirts!).

The Teacher Forum, new this year, provided an opportunity for teachers of piano to share their experiences and insights. It would be great to see this program grow stronger in the future. We are indebted to Eugene Pridonoff for his sharing of lifelong experience and insights into topics of artistry and practice. He was able to really boil things down to the important considerations in the lives of busy educators, no matter where they teach, or what their level of pedagogy.

For some API news from 2022 Festival students, we enthusiastically announce:

  • Olivia Zhao will be playing at Carnegie Hall later this month.

  • Celine Chen will be studying at University of Southern California with the acclaimed Bernadine Blaha.

  • Yuna Kang will be attending Case Western University on a generous scholarship

  • Daniel Kang received a full scholarship to attend Brevard Music Center.

  • Asuka Firdaus, Kyle Gu, Daniel Kang, Justin Kang, Yuna Kang, Abraham Kim (cello), Milton Lin, Stephanie Lobodanescu, Lawrence Wen, and Olivia Zhao recently won prizes in prestigious state competitions.

Please share other such notable news with us anytime.
